They’re migrating the servers for the entire Department of Mental Health today

I’ve worked for the government too long to not be worried if we’re going to actually have working computers tomorrow 🤣

You are lucky you got in under the wire!
Tue, March 25, 2025 Federal health officials said Tuesday they are pulling back $11.4 billion in COVID-19-related funds for state and local public health departments and other health organizations throughout the nation.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a non-existent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago,” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

My contacts in our state health dept tell me that the money in the later stage of the Covid bill is for infrastructure upgrades - new computer systems, new DNA & RNA sequencing equipment, new bio safety labs, etc. A whole bunch of state labs who were planning upgrades just got the rug pulled out from under them.

@ElwoodBlues Yea that’s about the size of it sadly :-(
I didn’t even know servers migrated!

I know what you mean, though, about the effectiveness of bureaucracies.

@Mamapolo2016 Only two kinds of people work for the government

People that actually care and people that are too incompetent or unmotivated to work anywhere else.

I’m convinced our IT is entirely the latter
@PalteseMalconFunch That would be mine as well, after years with the PA Dept of Welfare.

IT departments can be quite priesthood-like pods, because most others don’t even know what they’re talking about.
Good luck with that 😂
