I've actually done hurricane clean up rebuild and water rescue before with private Crews working for FEMA and water rescue with the Cajun Navy. I was in Florence and here for Michael outside of altha and chipley and I went to New Bern to assist after Florence. Right now though I don't have a bucket or a pickup truck just a good stihl
@Musicman the cleanup after Florence was basically waiting for the flooding to subside and rebuild there was a lot of damage up there but a lot of the initial horrible events where barely minimal at least where I was. Waterbound rescue however was a definite priority. Now Michael was a totally different story the roads in were completely inaccessible so they had to chopper us in and when we went over Mexico Beach it looked like a completely destroyed moonscape with matchstick scattered all over it there were literally flat slabs of cement were buildings and houses used to be. Roads were lifted off the ground and tossed aside at the Air Force Base they literally had bunkers that were blown apart and f-15s thrown all over the runway like they were toys. The sad part is for months they were finding people or pieces of them and trees and it was pretty bad
@Musicman during Florence I did have the satisfaction of assisting in several rescue swims going in was pretty interesting most of those rescues were done in darkness however it was worth the dangers like submerged debris etc because when we finally got them on the airboats the look in these people's eyes it was worth every bit of the risk
@KingofBones1 I am so sorry. That sounds absolutely terrible! The government told people who stayed for Milton to write their names, date of birth, any medical conditions and allergies on their torso to help rescuers when they found them. 💔😢😢😢
@Musicman I was not active duty at the time I discharged in 2006 however having done 10 years in the Marine corps and special operations I was suitable for that type of work as it were and I volunteered with the Cajun Navy as rescue swimmer and I have basic contracting skills as well so when it came to building decks helping redo bathrooms or moving air conditioning units into place it was things and skill sets that I have done before
@Musicman the one thing I would like to add was the people were very grateful and during Michael there was a gas station near the contractor camp that provided everything for free after we took a tree off there roof. The owners are very nice people and the sheriff's department actually let us pipeline power right off their conduit since they had a big backup generator
@KingofBones1 That is so cool! After hurricane Ian a lot of people came in from Texas to help. There is a vacant office building in town with a huge parking lot. The people brought in RV's and lived in the parking lot for three months. They worked seven days a week in the beginning then tapered off to six days a week.
@Musicman thank you my friend I appreciate that. I have a very hardcore side to me but when it comes to the suffering, or the good the country all that goes out the window and it's like my uncle Vincent once said at the family reunion we come from all different walks of life some of us high some of the very low, but when it comes down to it the two things that Bond us together besides our family name, are we serve our God. And we serve this country. We answer the call because it cannot always be someone else's son
