A loud crack..like a bolt of lightning.

Glad I wasnt up there taking sunrise pictures this morning. Shorted to ground on the tower, huge arc flash and boom!! And then a phase arc rolling down the wires to the switchyard blowing insulators off each tower as it went past.
Will be a few days before we make any electricity again.

That's impressive. To blow insulators off takes quite a bit of energy. Did an insulator fail creating the short?

@Livingwell The most common concensus is a Seagull landed in the wrong place. There was some burnt feathers apparently.
It was crazy watching it. Every time the arcs passed by a tower the insulators blew off.
