Regualy, but only if they keep paying me!

Adogslife · 61-69, M
Everyone gets frustrated occasionally, but I consider myself very fortunate. I love what I do and have the respect of my staff.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Well, then ask him for more responsibility. Companies grow. With greater responsibility, you'll earn his trust. That's the door you use to get his ear and elicit change.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
@Adogslife: not this guy, he wants to do everything himself. There is no progression here
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@Adelh91: well then, don't waste time. Use employment with him to find yourself a better job. Life is too short to be underpaid.
Vgore0304 · 31-35, F
Nope cause I like my job yes it at a chicken processing plant but it pays good and really good benefits
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@Vgore0304: is your boss nice
Vgore0304 · 31-35, F
@juiceyangel333: yes he buys food for every one
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@Vgore0304: do you live alone

A few times

I started a house cleaning business. I liked it because I had clients, not bosses. I also like the fact that, if I lost one client, I wasn't losing my job. I always had enough to carry me, financially until I could fill the time slot.

@juiceyangel333: maybe a year. My overhead was low. I had no office. No designated business phone. No vehicle. I used public transit and my home phone to do business. At first I was making just about enough to live off. But when my clients started telling their friends and family how well I did the job, I soon had to take on an employee. I kept the business very small. Never became an agency. Just me, one employee, and private clients. I never kept a client I couldn't get along with. I'd quit and find another to fill the time slot. I didn't get rich, but at no time, after I started working for myself, was I ever unemployed and I never got headaches as I did when working for others. I did that for thirty five years. Retired 3 1/2 years ago.

@Serenitree: and you still have money to live off now ?
Serenitree · F
@juiceyangel333: I have two pensions. Still not wealthy, but not starving. I have a roof over my head, cats to love and a large family that I dote on. Money isn't rolling in by the truck load, but I have plenty for my modest wants and needs.

Yes. And I did it. Started my own business instead. Best move I ever made.

no, but I knew a guy that did that. it was a pretty impressive f'up sorta thing.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
My boss would only have himself to blame
SW-User
@Adelh91: this guy was a DBA and screwed up ... like.. an entire company. realized what he did, packed up all his stuff and walked out without telling anyone. didn't even wanna admit how dumb he'd been. made it 4 times harder to fix.
SW-User
Yes, and even did, but not before I got an other alternative 😛
SW-User
@Adelh91: Never just leave, I saw some doing that and really regretting it afterwards, and if you leave, always in a proper way, even if it's a lousy job, it's a small world 😉
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
@kingkyrie: I've done it before at an equally shit place where I was also being exploited. I wouldn't hesitate
SW-User
@Adelh91: It depends on the job a bit, guess I would if I was treated like a slave ore something like that, I can imagine I would run to, no matter what, so...

Yes, many times.

I did about 17 years ago, I was at the point that I felt getting up and quitting because I had a lead who was balking at letting me take my vacation time (when he took every hour he had coming to him).

@Kimmler: sick of being exploited and given physically unachievable targets then being slated when I can't hit them.

I'm a paint sprayer for a joinery firm and I've just been told there's a load of work that is still being made by the joiners that needs to be sprayed and ready to load on the van tomorrow, and that I have to stop as late as it takes to get them done
