Pretty messed up that child labor is making a comeback in the US

I guess it’s not surprising given decades of attacks on workers’ rights, but I thought that with all the “protect the children” rhetoric, there wouldn’t be so much support for allowing 14-year-olds to work in factories or long hours. Of course that was empty rhetoric and only applies to wedge issues like book bans and keeping school bathrooms policed. A few headlines about “labor shortages” and it’s time for red states to start letting more and younger children work. These laws are mainly to protect immigrant children working in the fields and factories. It won’t be affluent white suburban kids doing this work. This is not about your after school gig.

The declining rate of profit and its consequences…

Ive been watching this.
If you don't think this is just another tactic to widen a gap that is already in need of a proper bridge, you are mistaken.

Can't support a family on two incomes? Send your adolescents out to work in the slaughter houses. That'll be great imprinting on their undeveloped brains.
Or, what the hell, we aren't teaching them in schools, why not keep them up all night to labor in your shop. Or maybe let young jane serve up alcohol to those brutes there in that dark corner.
You bet these lawmakers won't be putting their children at risk. Just the people that put them there, because obviously, they know no better.
@Carla new parties for the people, non Dems and non Republicans for the people. Of course we can always burn it down and crush it.

@Carla or young Mark being made to go shirtless in short shorts as he is working serving alcohol to those brutes there in that dark corner that rather see Mark than Jane. they will be feeling up young Mark a lot too. those long hours in the factory for teens in high school make it really hard for them to stay awake in school and they have no time to do homework as they are either working or in school, no time for sports or weightlifting either. returning us to child labor of a couple of centuries ago.

That is all very true, @trackboy.
The party that is all about the fate of parasitic cells, have no trouble exploiting poor, unrepresented children.
Do you see a correlation in that?
@Carla capitalism is exploitation. Bipartisan failure.

@Carla or some will (This was in Hillsboro OR) a woman was getting $200 a month from 3-5 guys to hump her 12 year old, who got pregnant.
