Pretty messed up that child labor is making a comeback in the US

I guess it’s not surprising given decades of attacks on workers’ rights, but I thought that with all the “protect the children” rhetoric, there wouldn’t be so much support for allowing 14-year-olds to work in factories or long hours. Of course that was empty rhetoric and only applies to wedge issues like book bans and keeping school bathrooms policed. A few headlines about “labor shortages” and it’s time for red states to start letting more and younger children work. These laws are mainly to protect immigrant children working in the fields and factories. It won’t be affluent white suburban kids doing this work. This is not about your after school gig.

The declining rate of profit and its consequences…

@Submissiveiendencies Yes he didn't veto this bill at all. Wait... what bill?!
These are state level laws. Republicans love states rights.
@Submissiveiendencies this is a joke,,
@jackrabbit10 No .He has let millions of illegal into this country. They have to work somewhere .
@Submissiveiendencies he need the illegal votes,,they can stay home work,,

@Submissiveiendencies These people end up filling 80% of low paid jobs that regular Americans refuse to touch because of the traditional way americans view low paid low skilled jobs but which still need to be done like
Fruit picking
House cleaning
Nanny or day care work
Laboring
Hospital and retirement home work
...

Your bias and superifical understanding of migration has nothing to do with the main post though.

@jackrabbit10 Non US citizens are not allowed to vote so how exactly do you see this benefiting him?

It does not help that when we are in school, we have it drilled into our heads that certain jobs just suck.
So then kids graduate and people complain, "These kids do not want to work!" Well of course not, they have already been conditioned that low wage labor sucks. What did society expect to happen?

I think if younger people WANT to work maybe for some spending money or save for something that is great. I washed dishes when I was 15/16 to save for my first car.

I don't think kids should have to take on serious responsibility though.

Also, older people always talk about how hard they had it. Even people my age act like they were slaves back in the 80's and I am here to say - that is complete bull. Us Gen X'ers were just as worthless as all generations of kids.

@CestManan There’s also the idea that those jobs are for kids and immigrants in the first place, so it’s okay that they have low pay, poor conditions, and no benefits, because those workers won’t try to do anything about it.

@SW-User I do not know why they would even want to be here if they would have to do such jobs.

@CestManan Unfortunately for some it’s still an opportunity that they don’t have in their home country and the money they can send back may be worth it. But from what I’ve read, they often end up stuck in a bad situation that they weren’t planning on, though (lured over the border by promises of something better that didn’t work out that way).

@SW-User The "American Dream" still lives on even though it's nothing but a false narrative to keep the status quo in place because people think they will be rich one day or something.
