Expecting to get laid off this week.

We're quite busy but i have no illusions that that will save me. Sales are down to an existential crisis level so us old timers are probably toast. No purchasing is being approved for R&D so i expect it's all going to go. I don't really want to drive 17 miles on icy roads all winter anyway. With any luck ill get a severence and just do early retirement. I have my clamp business on the side and the farmstead to give me something to do.

I was in a similar situation working for a global company where the older and more experienced you were, the more vulnerable you were. When people were terminated, there was never any severance and two weeks notice at best. Some people with decades of experience were terminated and told to pack up and leave immediately. I ended up leaving before they had a chance to terminate me and started my own business, which has been very successful, and with far less stress. Most of my clients came along with me. You are probably in a better position than you think. Best of luck.

@windinhishair Good job.
I very much feel for the powerless, those without the business acumen or skills to simply walk into something else. Even many who think they can but the doors don't open as they expected... it's tough. Love to hear stories like yours.

@Abstraction Looking back, I should have done it much earlier. I was much healthier not working for an unethical organization.
with a side hustle, and a farmstead, maybe this could be good news. dont stuggle to hard over the severance, take the second offer

🤞on the severance if you’re right - that will make a huge difference

You should tell us more about your farmstead some time
