How do you connect with someone who has a hard shell?

My manager is the type of person to get to work, get the day over with, and go home. He hardly says a word at all, all day. Even when I joke with him, it's mostly just, "Yeah... ha... okay."

I've mostly just been leaving him alone when I can but is there any way to connect with him?

You don't have to connect with him lol. Tbh I don't mind it when people are quiet...the most important thing is that he instructs you properly, and that whatever tasks you have aren't too boring. Before I started the job I have now, I hated being in a workplace with a "slow" pace. I liked working in fast environments because then you could just get on with it.

Managers have higher stress loads than regular employees. Thats probably why they just want to get things done and go home

@HannibalMontanimal Yeah true. I get along with the manager inside the store area and supposedly, he hates everyone. I'm just wondering if I can use that skill to connect with the one on the garage, too.

You can only if they are willing to let you in even a little bit. Sometimes no matter how much you want to connect if they aren't open to it you just can't :(
