“This job would be great if it wasn’t for the customers”

I want to rant about this customer I had yesterday.

She came in looking for diet supplements, that we no longer sell. She got mad at more for the volume at which I speak… I ignored that.

I went to check her out, she had laid her money on the counter. When people do this, I assume they want no contact for various reason. I know some elderly do it more now because of Covid. So I laid her change on the counter.

She then proceeds to get mad at me because I did that.

She accused me of throwing the money on the counter (I did not) and snatching the money out of her hand. I purposely take money from people at a slower than average pace so no one can accuse me of this.

On a side note, for you people who are sensitive to this- what is the proper speed I can take money from you?

She then calls me a bitch, asshole, and threatened to report me. So I went and grabbed my manager. The angry, old, fat lady started to leave when my manager came. I guess she was too chicken to actually report me. There was another customer in line who vouched for me after she left. She witnessed the whole thing. She confirmed that I was in no way rude.

My manager knows that I am very nice if left unprovoked. Our boss encourages us to take no disrespect from customers. She says if they’re rude to us, to put them back in their place.

I do think this is why “no one wants to work anymore”. It’s the service/retail industry. Customers sucked before, but ever since Covid, they became unbearable. All my coworkers agreed. It’s like they forgot how manners and basic human decency work. Now most are just entitled jerks.

It’s a shame I treat customers who use manners like saints, that should be a given.

I was on a flight yesterday. It was 4 hours. The guy next to me did this really loud sniffing nervous habit. It was so annoying and even when I could put my earphones in I could still hear it. It was so so so so painful. He is lucky he didn’t get thrown out of the plane.

If customers behave like that, to me it is a sign of unhappiness and stress in their lives..we treat others as we are usually...
