Is it really that dorky to wear a reflective vest at a job that involves walking in the roadway?

I've been told multiple times at work that I don't have to wear a reflective vest. My manager even tried to give me a company-issued one that's company color and has a logo, but it was big and bulky and would easily get hot and sweaty.

People at the office just act like I'm a huge dork for wearing one like this:
