When a colleague cries at work...

A coworker passed away last weekend and one of my colleagues was reflecting on the loss and began to cry. I hugged them and offered comforting words, and since i didn’t want to make them uncomfortable, after asking if they're OK, I just slowly walked back to my desk. The more i thought about it, maybe I should have stayed and offered additional hugs and encouraged them to talk more about their feelings. Am I cold? How would you handle the situation?

No. That's a situation where the lines blur between professional and personal. What you did seems reasonable
@BeefySenpie Thank you. I'm pretty aloof in general, and in these situations I'm especially awkward.

@DreamyCrush You did a lot better than I would have done. I'm not good with crying people and I'm not (with very few exceptions) a hugger). 👏
