Some places I've applied to ask for a picture with your CV. I don't understand...So basically if you're ugly or look below average or something then they don't hire you? What's that all about? If you don't look a certain way you don't make the cut?...

They want to see if you fit the 'image' of the place. They are interested in presentation, hair, piercings, tattoos... anything that could enable them to do a preliminary sifting and omit you. With everyone obsessed with race it probably helps them see if the applicant ticks any so called diversity box.
