Working in a cannery during the early 1970s.

I would have seriously considered making it a career, but all the canneries disappeared from the US by the mid 1970s.

@greenmountaingal what is a cannery? Making tin cans? Putting food in them? 🤔
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@iamnikki Canning food, like the cans of food you buy in supermarkets. The cannery I worked in canned berries, beans and pears.

@greenmountaingal ok, that was my guess. Sounds like it could be fun

@iamnikki No competition among workers, egalitarian camaraderie, great exercise (no need to join a gym!), free fruit and veggies to take home (and then can myself), and for me, best of all, I was a member of the Teamsters Union, a powerful union that kicked out the Communist Party many decades ago thus making it impossible for my otherwise powerful mother to get me fired.
