Why do employers make you send a resume, when they will also make you fill out an online application?

You stress out over making your resume perfect, but then for every job you’re really interested in, you have to do an online application anyway. (Don’t get me started on those goddamn online applications.) It seems like a lot of wasted effort.

It's just ridiculous to have to do both! Especially if you find a small insignificant job to hold you over even asks for a resume. That just gets me.
