Why do employers make you send a resume, when they will also make you fill out an online application?

You stress out over making your resume perfect, but then for every job you’re really interested in, you have to do an online application anyway. (Don’t get me started on those goddamn online applications.) It seems like a lot of wasted effort.

Plus, the resume doesn't show you what kind of work ethic you have. If you can't be bothered to complete an application, you might end up slacking on other things too
