Why do employers make you send a resume, when they will also make you fill out an online application?

You stress out over making your resume perfect, but then for every job you’re really interested in, you have to do an online application anyway. (Don’t get me started on those goddamn online applications.) It seems like a lot of wasted effort.

I'm pretty sure the CV is what your potential manager gets to see, the online application is just used by HR to auto-filter down to a small selection pool. Which is a collosally dumb way to do it, given the HR department hardly ever knows what's needed to actually perform the actual job
