If u were in a job u hate but an opportunity came up for a better job... U take the new job but in ur current job it's in ur contract u can't work for a competitor for a year after leaving.... new job is a competitor... well only a competitor on one product.... one out of many....

References u have given aren't from ur current job... new employers personally know references u have given... no one from new company know ppl from current job... I think current job won't find out... as long as i don't out it onto social media....

What wud u do?
