Am I missing something?

I started a new job at a restaurant and my trainer hates me. He talks shit around me when I'm right beside him but he doesn't know that i speak Spanish too. It was only my second day today and he's bitching and complaining about how i don't know things. But that's the part that puzzles me, he's supposed to be training me and I'm inexperienced. He also hates it when i do my job right and give it my all. I've caught him cutting corners these past two days and when i call him out on it, he tells me not to worry about it. Today I really pissed him off because i tried extra hard and mopped the floors all good. I know it ain't fun but the job has to get done properly. I take great pride in my work, even if it's as simple as mopping floors. Should i talk some sense into him?

I agree with alienmindlink. Also, i would continue to pretend i dont speak Spanish. Then you can call him out one day and cut him loose if you want.

@iamnikki I'll tell him after one year but I'll say it in Spanish. He'll probably be really surprised. I nearly lost my temper with him today because he was doing it right next to me. I sometimes wish i didn't understand because he says some unkind things about me. I didn't let him get to me however. I don't wanna ruin the kitchens' positive vibes.
First talk to him. Tell him you do not appreciate how he has trained you, spoken about you in Spanish, treats you poorly. Give him the chance to step it up.
If this doesn’t work...You should go to the manager. If it continues....
Document everything. Dates, times, exactly what he says, exactly what he does. He is not doing his job properly and the manager needs to know about it. Start documenting everything. Do so for 4-5 days and then take to boss. Demand better treatment.
I like that you know Spanish and know what he is saying. Take advantage of that. When he least expects it and he’s saying bad things about you in Spanish say,”Listen here loser....you are supposed to be training me. Do your job or you and I will be taking this up with the manager.” If you have to go to the manager have all documentation right there to hand over. Don’t let this guy ruin your job...he needs to be fired.

Just dont speak spanish in front of him
It would be fun

You probably won't be able to talk sense into him. Some people's ego can't handle any competition. Just get through the training period and then do your own thing when free of him.

@SW-User oh yeah. I forgot it's only 1 week of training. Thats a good point.
After your training be sure to ask him something about work in Spanish.
Hang in there and don’t allow one lose to bring you down.

@Pinkstarburst ooh, that's a good way to do it! And have the guy standing there like 😳
Exactly!@iamnikki
Just wait until he calls you stupid to other people when you are standing there and then call him out in Spanish, Like You Dumb Fuck the only reason I wouldn't know something is because you are the one that's supposed to be training me.
