If you send a text at work and don't get a response how long do you wait before trying again?

(Or before calling?)

Sending text messages at my work is forbidden, so I wouldn't even do that, because that's (usually) private related than work related. People can be a the toilet, have a meeting, be too busy with an assignment,.. What I do when I want to contact a co-worker, I first call them, and if they don't pick up (because of the named up examples) I send an email and just wait until I get a reply, and continue with my work. And only if I haven't heard back from this person the next three days, I'll contact them again after I asked around if that specific person is present at work at all or absent. Have respect for other people at work, always show patience and never impose yourself to anyone.

I dont bother again I wait for them to reply

Lights - my work has many time-sensitive matters so it is expected that people respond fast and not frowned upon to send texts expecting urgent answers. The company gives company-provided cell phones so we can text over urgent issues.

Good for you not sure but I've had colleagues admit they intentionally avoid all texts and emails about certain topics until sent multiple times. I agree with you though.

I don't try again. I don't want to feel even more ignored. Lol

An hour or two, people in my industry are very busy.

~4 hours I guess, depending on how serious it was. 1 hour they could be in a meeting. 2 hours they could have had a meeting and then lunch. 3 hours they may have had a meeting, then had lunch, then just been too busy with other things to respond. If it was really important, I'd just call them and leave a voice mail.

Sunshine - if they realize they're in trouble, if they realize they're going to have to do a lot of work, etc
Funny - at my job there are things needing a response within a day and sometimes within a few hours. I envy you that you can wait 16 days!
Sub - wow - you run a tight ship!

bbcjsv - ah ok
bbcjsv · 46-50, F
Plunge I'd hope they check text during lunch as well (and at least read it during a meeting). The fact that we use text instead of email signifies it is kind of urgent and may need immediate attention.

@notsure what if they simply don't? If they start replying then get caught up and forget or have multiple texts and somehow overlook your text? (Or are trying to avoid the topic on purpose?)

@bbcjsv
It didn't happen to me before so haven't tried that . But I don't know why would a coworker avoid such topics. Well I don't know what would I really do that's a tough situation tbh :o
SW-User
That's entirely dependent on the reason I chose to send such a message. If it requires celerity in reply, I wait only a few minutes, Otherwise, it doesn't even cross my mind.
notsure · 56-60, M
No not trying to avoid the topic we are all busy people and no matter how many texts I had I would reply if I needed or wanted to
bbcjsv · 46-50, F
Tough balance though sunshine - can't have a buffoon who never reaponds to anything unless he is trying to get fired :)
SW-User
Oh okay. If it's about work I'd send 10 messages every minute, they cannot ignore such things and expect me to stay calm XD XD
bbcjsv · 46-50, F
I was actually referring to texting a coworker at work about work so they're probably ignoring the topic rather than you personally :)
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Since it is at work you don't wait as long, give it 7 minutes then text are you in a meeting or something.
bbcjsv · 46-50, F
Lasting sunshine I'm sure all your colleagues would hate you :)
