@SweetDreamsRubi And I was supposed to know that, was I? As far as I am concerned, a bra is what a woman wears to hold her boobs in place. My old school dictionary (the Pocket Oxford Dictionary, 1970 edition) does not include the definition you just mentioned. Now if the question had read "Who are you bro?" instead, my response would have been different.

@SweetDreamsRubi Actually over here where I am "bra" is also spelt that way in its slang form and the "a" is pronounced as one would use the letter "u" in the word "bus".

@NankerPhelge I was spelling it the exact way it was pronounced. We have variations of the way it is pronounced. So "bruh" is pronounced differently from "bruh". "Bra" is a more clipped off pronunciation used in what is common in "coloured slang".

I think only a voice recording would actually distinguish the difference.

@SweetDreamsRubi Isn't it odd how others know what something means when I haven't the foggiest idea? It's beginning to make me wonder what I missed in my education, considering I rarely missed a day in school. 🤔

@NankerPhelge It's "South African Coloured". No matter how I try to explain it, its best if you could actually hear it being said.

@NankerPhelge Lol no school will prepare you for life in South Africa. We have an entire mix of different accents that would make your head spin lol.

It seems like school didn't prepare me for life on the Internet. Ever since I started using this type of website I've encountered similar problems in understanding what people mean. Why do you think that is?

I guess it's all about learning by exposure.

@iMystery When I was in school it was all about learning from books. Add to that the fact that my brain is still stuck in the 1970s and it's hardly any wonder that I find the Internet so baffling. Lol :)

@SweetDreamsRubi In South Africa u will always hear words or variations thereof that you won't find in any dictionary HAHAHAHA

@iMystery My old school dictionary doesn't include South African dialect (I still have the dictionary at home). Lol :)

@SweetDreamsRubi "Bruh" is not in my old school dictionary (the Pocket Oxford Dictionary, 1970 edition). That's the dictionary we were told to use when I was in school and that was the newest one I could get at the time (I had it in 1973).

@SweetDreamsRubi I mainly use it to carry on living in the past. I save old pictures of places I went as a child, I listen to music on WMP that I had on vinyl 40 years ago, I read stories on the Internet about the past and I talk about the past a lot on sites like this. That's how I use a computer to carry on living in the past. To me, it's just a new tool I can use to carry on doing things I've always liked to do.

@SweetDreamsRubi Sometimes I find out things I wondered about 40 years ago but never found the answers then. That's another good thing about it.
