I Had A Bad Boss
I went for a 4th interview yesterday for the same company but this time was interviewed by the CEO for the post executive assistance. At the start everything was going well, but when he asked me about a previous boss that I worked for who was a really bad boss I just felt nervous because I had flash backs of him.. I tried to be calm and answered his questions professionally. But then when he asked why just 6 months with him? I answered that truthfully that there was structural changes within the organization and the department closed and he was promoted to CEO and I was transferred to a new department in the company. But when he asked me “Why didn’t he take you with him?” I answered: because there was an executive assistant there that worked with the previous CEO…. Which is true. That’s when my excitement changed.
It took me 2 years to recover from the bad immoral behavior and treatment that I had from my previous boss and I know what changed his behavior.
When I was first interviewed by him I was single, and at that time I was happy with my work in the other company but since I got the call from him personally to meet I went for it to see what its all about. At the start he was extremely friendly but I had to reject his offer twice till he changed the package and it was better than what I was getting at that time.
A week after signing the contract , I told him that I am going for my honey moon end of December .. and my official starting date is in January, since then his true colors came out. He never liked anything I did. Plus he never liked his guests talking to me, not sure why although its part of my job to be friendly and presentable to the guests. Everytime I point out the wrongs in the process or system he replied “ not your business. One thing I learned from my career is that everyone has a different personality and I have to adjust to it, at that time I thought maybe he’s going through something in his personal life and I might be his punching bag but 6 months? That wasn’t right.
But what really made me know that he wants me gone is when he asked me to book appointments and he asked me again to cancel them and when I do he walks in shouting “ WHY DID YOU CANCEL THE APPOINTMENT?!” I replied with a calm voice “ you told me to” “Ill book them again if you still want to meet the person? …. He walked in his office slamming the door behind him. At that point I started to write down everything with the date and time, he did the same thing few days later and when he walked in screaming , I raised my note pad showing him that he asked for it at this time … he gave me a weird stare and walked out.
I have patience, and I never give a chance for someone I worked for to find a reason to tell me am not good or incompetent. So I started to have sleepless nights, with high ring tone on my phone the dings when ever I received an email during the night. Since his all attempts failed to push me to resign he sents me an email at 3 in the morning asking me to arrange a meeting with the guys at 7 in the morning, I jumped and emailed all the guys a mint after receiving the request and I have called them 10 mints before 7 and no answer, guess what no one showed up , he walked in office at 8 and didn’t say anything. There is another incident where he called me in the office for something and I remember him touching himself and when I noticed that I just gave him eye contact and talked worked and walked out. That’s one of the moments where I just sat there thinking…. What a big mistake I have done working here. at the end structural changes happened, his department closed and i was transferred and he became the CEO of the company ..3 months later the board fired him. (Karma did hit him hard)
to get to the point.. after the interview I fear that I will end up with another clone of my previous boss and my anxiety levels are high atm, couldn't sleep last night.
