One of the many reasons work exhausts me. Mind you, this is just one of the employees I have to hold the hand of on a daily basis.
I laid our frozen fish to thaw for the teenager who will be needing it tonight. After a bit, I knew it was good to start prying apart to put in the fish container for her. So naturally, I asked her to check on it.
She did and said, “it’s still frozen solid. A brick.”
I knew better.
After I took care of the task I was on, I went over to get her started on it, doing something she could have easily done, but chose not to. …for reference, she’s the one employee who constantly asks me if she can go home early and sighs out loud anytime I ask her to do anything. Literally, anything.
I told her to check on it again. Miraculously, she was able to separate all the fillets and add them to her cooler for tonight’s dinner crowd. Crazy, huh? 🙄
I know she’s young. I know she’s clearly spoiled. And I know she can do better but she chooses not to, and that’s actually heartbreaking to see in this generation of up and comers. I want her to have more initiative. I want her to master so many things that require little effort or know-how. I want her to be a strong, dependable, capable woman later in life. I have hope that she will since she’s still learning this thing called life. Hell. Even at 48 I’m still learning it, but at least I have the will to be a bit of a badass in the most ridiculous ways simply because I can. That’s something. I just hope she has her somethings later in life otherwise…damn.
