Grocery store grand opening
Okay, so I recently got hired as a cashier at a grocery store.
I trained for about 2 weeks before we were all required to attend the new store orientation or whatever
There were all kinds of higher-ups there.
They were trying to get us amped up for the new store opening
I'm not gonna lie, I appreciate the fact that I will be working at a new store with new equipment.
But was I wrong to feel like the hoorah routine was kinda silly?
This isn't my first rodeo, I've seen this play out in the past. The high standards never last, and all that talk about how we're gonna be the best, and this company cares about the employees, bla, bla, bla, etc......i know it won't last long
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the enthusiasm but it's events like this that make me feel like I'm being baited into a trap.
They gave us a bunch of free snacks, pens, and things like that. It just felt like they were trying too hard.
Call me a pessimist but I didn't trust their gestures.
I truly want this store to succeed but I also like to keep my expectations average, so as to not deal with disappointment later.
I can tell some corporate people didn't like my defensiveness at the event but oh well, they don't exactly fire people for not being as optimistic as they were.
I showed up and pretended to enjoy the cringey music and jokes on stage. I did the minimum. I survived the fakeness
