I work for a medical supply company making about 19.5/hr. The good news is that I get paid leave and I'm basically my own boss, but my position is only part-time and I don't get benefits even though my offer letter stated otherwise. With heath care costs going back up I'm not really sure what I would do without the job even though they don't provide heath care.

If they put in writing you do get benefits, legally they are obligated to give benefits. What ever is in writing, in a court room is the contract. Be looking for another job, some money better then none in the mean time.
