Sitting on interview committees......

From time to time, I am called to sit in on interview committees for new hires and promotions...... i am amazed at the amount of people who appear unprepared for the interview. Do you normally interview prospective new hires, and if so, what are some of the more common mistakes you have seen during these interviews ??

Not learning the basics about the organisation you've applied to. I work at a university and we've had ones who have no idea about student numbers, the way the faculties and schools are organised, what courses we offer etc.

All stuff a few minutes on the website would have told you.

I'm moving to a new job soon and they contacted me after I initially rejected the offer of a job. Part of the thing they said was that they had loads of applicants but no one had done any of the prep I had about understanding the organisation. Just bizarre to me.
