Journal entry: corporate culture with smoke and mirrors.

This morning I had to gather my colleagues to go to the airport for our journey home.
On our way there, it was revealed to me that one of the spouses of "upper upper management" during an offsite after-party revealed alot of secrets that foretold eliminating jobs locally and moving them to other countries or putting other family members in charge.
While we sensed it, it pretty much was the final nail into the coffin of how disposable a department or group of people are. Two of the members of this group are my close colleagues.
I feel like utter sh*t and feel like the seeds of mistrust are now sprouting in full.
And now I'm questioning everything that my boss has said or "hinted" at. Am I putting in my time and passion to line the pockets of the upper upper management ? Or am I trying to grow with my colleagues to build a damn good company that we can be proud of?
I really need some kind of reassurance of the bigger picture because "keeping secrets" from each other isn't the right way at all. I tried calling one of them today and it went straight to voicemail and now I'm worried about him.

I've no doubt many companies are behaving as if all is well but have ideas in the back of their minds to downsize or outsource if a time comes where self-preservation becomes an issue.

And so to the quandary you find yourself in.
Do you tell your colleagues what was said during a drunken conversation ?

Personally I'd probably say something.
You can't affect the plan (if it even is a plan) but those you tell then have the opportunity to consider their own position and can act (or not) accordingly.

That would be perhaps the biggest drawback of having a good paying job. Constant worry about being outsourced or downsized.

Companies are not loyal to their workers. Everyone from the CEO all the way down to the fresh immigrants who clean the restrooms is expendable.

I do not know why anyone would be devoted to the place they work. The only group that companies are concerned with are the share holders.

This sounds a lot like a normal recurring conversation and it's no surprise at all. But I can't imagine being under the pressure of it especially when you're in the jenga tower of it all.

@Tachyeon everyone seems self-preserving and now i know why. I know my portion of the jenga tower is safe, but it pisses me off that there is a clear lack of transparency

That sucks, but sadly, it’s a fact of life when you work for someone else.
