The real sad part is that this mindset never died

Still going on today. "What, you want a raise? Just because we force you to do the job of five people? Absurd!"

When you meet every quota and never miss a days work and put in every extra hour asked or needed and go above and beyond the job requirements, you don't ask. You tell them you'll be leaving soon.

They'll taunt you and ask "how's the job search going" and when you put in your notice act like they got a right to know where your next job is. I won't tell. They won't offer a raise unless you tell them.

If you tell they'll steal your dignity. They. offer a raise and if you say yes or no either way you'll feel like you screwed someone over. Don't fall for it. If they won't offer the raise before you start looking then just go.

No regrets.
