Wow thats some BS

United Furniture fires thousands by text days before Thanksgiving

Around 2,700 workers lost their jobs on Monday.
The company, which had become one of the largest furniture businesses in the country, sent a memo via email and text message to workers late Monday night and instructed them not to report to work the next morning.

layoff is "expected to be permanent and all benefits will be terminated immediately without provision of COBRA.

Many of those who were fired were asleep when the emails were sent and some never even saw them before heading to their shifts on Tuesday.

Mass layoffs are a very real problem, way too common over the past couple months.
@Magnolia21 true but what a cowardly way to do it / by text late at night

@NightsWatch I guess some thought it would just be "smoother" that way.
@Magnolia21 only for the white collar people / HR
By text? With no warning? Oh shit. That's just. I can't even imagine
@Bexsy yeah late at night too

Isn't technology wonderful?! They didn't even have to face anyone or call on a phone. But I guess cowards find ways....
I remember my son showing up for work once and a note was on the door that all employees
no longer had a job. I know there was a group action to sue the place and it went through.
I don't think it's legal to just dump everyone with no benefits of any kind.
@SW-User i agree ...cowards . The time of year is bad enough but i could understand that the timing may be out of the companys control . But if you think it might happen give the people a heads up so they can get ready for it / bills etc. And then to text it at night to them .....total dick move
