What is the best way to tell my boss that I will no longer be working for as of Monday?

I normally just stop showing up but this boss has not done anything to really make me mad, so I plan on actually saying something this time.

I’m an “at will” employment state, so it works both ways. I don’t have to give a 2 weeks if I don’t want to. I plan on doing my shift today and Sunday. That at least gives her 3 days to get her stuff in order. I’m her only closing cashier.

Being the only closing cashier played a big role in why I’m leaving. On top of rude customers and a lack of employees (responsibilities outside of my job description became my problem). At the new job, I work Monday - Thursday 10 hour shifts and it’s a book warehouse (no customers).

I just have terrible social skills and I don’t know how to break the news because when I go, there will only be her, the assistant manager, and a morning cashier who can’t work weekends or evenings because she’s a single mom (she works days because the child goes to daycare).
"I have to quit effective (immediately...or whatever day you choose). I have accepted a new position and they want/need me to start training on Monday."

Do not be surprised if they try to counteroffer (wages). Do not be surprised if they get mad and all pissy about it. And whatever you do .... do not accept any counteroffer or "olive branch" they offer.

If she wants a reason ... and they usually ask ... just tell her that the customers antics/negativity are stressing you out and it is affecting your mental health.

I would recommend you work out your 2 week notice - so that when a prospective employer calls them in the future they will say you didn't walk out on them.

totally up to you but if you decide not to then just rip off the bandaid and tell them when you come in when your last days is going to be - and if they fire you on the spot then file for unemployment
@Pretzel I already told my new employer I will start Monday 🥲 I plan on using my old store manager from the store I started at (I transferred to my current location) as she loved me and said I can come back to her anytime. She knows about the issues I deal with at my current store and she even recommended I go elsewhere because the company is imploding within itself. I only didn’t go back because I move to Pennsylvania to be with my bf and I know if would hurt him if I went back to NJ.

@666Maggotz ohhh in that case tell them your last day and work as hard as you can until the last minute

or you can do what they did at one of the drug stores a friend of mine worked at - they said "I'm going to lunch at popeye's" and then they would never return :)

Hmm...say...I will not longer be working as of Monday?
Well I’m just trying to figure out how to put it nicely. I have a lot of social anxiety @okaybut

@666Maggotz Of course I get it, but I am not sure there is an easy way. There is one hack I see...you can put the blame on yourself for whatever reason. Make it seem like you just cannot do the work role. But yes, it sucks to feel like you might be letting someone down, sorry.
