When last we met, I was but a learner.

I started a new job in the same office, and we had a meeting to discuss my "new role."

They want me to become a "master" of the statistical survey we work on.

Does that mean I will have a seat on the Jedi Council?

"Strong you are with the math, but you are not a jedi yet!"
ahahah GOOD LUCK!!! you'll do great.

I wish they'd given me a lightsaber.
@JoyfulSilence you already have one of those, lmfao 🤭

Mine is broken. It needs a new crystal, but there is a supply shortage.

We should always be learning.

Oh, I do not mind learning, or becoming a master.

But they also want me to teach others, to pass on what I've learned. I do not even mind that, as long as it is informal, and with only a few. Yet they want me to teach a class, one I took myself 3 years ago, and struggled with myself! So nervous!

I get so nervous and sometimes impatient, although it is all online, now.

Yet sometimes being online makes it more difficult because I cannot survey the class and see their facial expressions, to see if they are confused, interested, bored, sleeping, etc. All I see are my slides. The audience actually shuts off their cameras and mikes.

I also do not enjoy grading homework, LOL!

I am best one-on-one.

This remote work environment suffers: no impromptu cubical meetings. People do not even make unscheduled video calls. No popping in or out!

It is what it is. I'll do it because I know stuff, and that is my job. But I'd much rather just be left alone to work on things, with minimal human interaction.
@JoyfulSilence Yes, I agree that online teaching is more challenging. But you can always arrange biweekly get togethers so that the team can meet and discuss topics together. Book a community hall and get lunch for everyone.

The class is not long enough to arrange meetings like that, and some people no longer live in the area (or never did!). Also, I am not that generous to want to buy all those strangers lunch! They will already be taking the class for free! I don't get paid extra, either.

My immediate office has biweekly staff meetings on MS Teams. Occasionally some of us meet for lunch, but we do not discuss work. It is rare, though, since the commute to a restaurant is brutal. The last two times I had to drive to a suburb on the far side of DC.

I would not know how to book anything, anyway. Even if we all worked on site, I have no clue how to arrange a classroom in our building. At least the first time I will team up with my new boss who has done it all before. Then, a year later he want me to do it all alone. I am so absent minded about administrative tasks.

I have taken the class once before, at least. I struggled, though, because they used software routines that were new to me.

I have never taught the class. And I never again used those software routines in my regular job.
