Can men please explain to me how menstruation works since it has MEN in the word ?

Er....Heres my rudimentary male knowledge:Its all down to how some hormones degenerate over a few weeks.Then if the "Im pregnant hormone"hasnt been activated,the signal goes out to dump the old unfertilised egg,from a few weeks ago,and for the ovaries to release a new one?
Because the old egg which was embedded within the blood rich lining of the uterus(endometrium?)it also causes the lining to shed which results in bleeding,through the cervix,and out down the vagina,until the new egg also becomes embedded,awaiting a dose of sperm to become pregnant.
Hows that?I guess some elements might be not quite accurate,but its all i can think of.
