With mangas like that in terms of stereotyping high school girls can we talk about the Damage it does to women when we portray women as Sexless Virgins with no actual interest in sex?
Because That Stereotype is doing a whole world of harm beyond what yours is. We have a Self harm Epidemic on our hands and have for as long i've been alive. Why do people cut? one line of suspicion would suggest the body releases natural painkillers known as endorphins in response.
But if we were not so terrified of women masturbating and potentially encouraging that behavior at alll as a culture if it were NORMALIZED the way men doing it has been then MAYBE these women would get it in their heads that you don't need to use one form of pain to distract yourself from the other and in fact sexualized pleasure could serve as a delightful distraction to emotional pain and destresser.
They cut for the same reason some people use Alcohol and say " I need a drink" and for the same reason that others turn to more intense drugs.
But masturbation is just as effective at releasing endorphins although in the interest of not seeming entirely depraved so does eating spicy food.
When we put this idea in their heads that women are supposed to be utterly devoid of interest in sex what we do is egg on and encourage low self-esteem and self harm.
We could teach them to love themselves and to take care of themselves yes even sexually instead, and it might not single-handedly solve our problems with cutting and self-abuse, but it could go a long way towards reducing the problem.,
