A difficult question but unfortunately for me a very simple answer..

Yes, I could kill an assailant
No I could not kill an assailant
You can only vote on one answer.
In Toronto in five days three synagogues were fired upon - front doors / windows likely 9 mm handguns were used.. I am Jewish, one of the Synagogues attacked was the one I attended with my family until I was married.. a fifteen minute walk from my Mothers home..
Over the next few days in the course of me going shopping and visiting my Mother I saw two of the three Synagogues that were attacked. There is no doubt in my mind that the Shooter(s) were not skilled marksmen..
I am licensed to possess firearms, I follow the law scrupulously...I also practice at the range and I am significantly and on a consistent basis highly accurate with groupings inside 30 mm on centre at a distance of 25 M ... 1 1/4" groups at 80' with a pistol.
With no offence to anyone intended I have absolutely zero sense of humour or charity towards those putting Jewish lives at risk.
So I asked myself a question... If I was acting in self defence or defence of the life of myself or another person, could I dispassionately kill an assailant? I mean by this, could I bring myself to put a bullet in a bad person'and kill them... could I kill someone? On a moral basis, on an ethical basis, could I do it and how would I feel about myself if I did kill an assailant? The short answer is, yes I could kill such a person but would I feel remorse? No, none what so ever.. I would happily be interviewed by the police, fill out the paperwork, present the witnesses that would corroborate the facts .. and yes dispassionately make and eat my next meal.. Would it bother me in any way? I would review the situation and come to the conclusion that there was no other option .. wounding a person with a gun makes me a target and.the fact is I do not miss what I aim at. So shooting to kill is the intent and it wold be the result.. That however is me.. Not everyone is a marksman but lets presume you had this skin level
I know me... I know what I would do..
