Is this necessary?

Every year I forget about the fireworks and whooping and hollering.

At least in the city there aren't many drunken yahoos shooting off their firearms in some twisted phallic celebration.

I think the celebrating is fun! I love going out on the balcony and hearing all of the fireworks from all over the city going off. Gun shots aren't necessary but I don't mind the sounds of partying and celebrating. It's all happy sounds to me.
