Why? (Reposted from 4 Hours Ago)

Okay, let's keep this civil. I want to know why owning a semiautomatic, military style firearm, with quick change magazines exceeding let's say 8 rounds, is so important to you. Why? What do you use it for that you could not otherwise do with something like a Henry Long Ranger.223 Remington, or let's say a Model 48 9mm S&W Revolver?

I have other questions concerning the whole firearms issue, but let's start with this. I will not be deflected, if you don't wish to discuss this specific question, please move on.

Before you launch into a tirade, know that I started shooting at around the age of 10, am a combat veteran, a retired Mastersergeant, own and always have owned, at least one firearm, and support our 2nd Amendment. I sincerely want to know your reasoning.

First , politics aside , I would like to thank you for your service Mastersergeant!

First the mag capacity . Why not have large cap mags? It’s a lot more fun to shoot my ARs, M4s, MP5, UMP 45, and G36c with more rounds in a mag . More fun at the range, more fun at the ranch controlling hogs. For self defense , facing multiple attackers , as with a home invasion ... more rounds in a single mag will definitely deter the bad guys.

With liberals , if you give an inch they’ll try to take a mile ... so it's just prudent to just say no when it come to the 2A.

@TexChik Thank you, I appreciate the "politics aside" answer. Although I see you couldn't quite get there 😉. I get that it is hard to say "Those with opposing views" instead of lumping half the nation together by saying "With liberals". Liberals do it too.

If I understand your answers correctly, you are saying:

1. Larger magazines means more fun when shooting.
2. For self-defense against home-invaders, larger magazines mean you feel you can better deter multiple invaders.
3. Easier to take down hogs and other range pests with larger magazines.

My intent in posting this question was not to pass or make judgements, it was simply to try and understand the views of people who are in favor of so called assault-type, semiautomatic weapons with large capacity magazines that are easily swapped when empty. You just helped me, so again, thanks!

@frequentlyme as you know , what I Said about liberals with regards to the 2A is quite correct and validates the reasons as to not let them knit pick , but allow the 2A’s “ shall not be infringed “ clause to do its work as intended.
