In the UK, cops will get asked if they want to carry guns

Police officers in the United Kingdom will be polled on whether they want to carry firearms. Currently only about one in 20 officers across England and Wales carries a gun, in stark contrast with the United States, where even officers posted in schools are armed.

A similar poll of London officers in February found that 43% wanted more specialized firearms personnel, and 75% thought all cops should be issued Tasers. However only 26% said police should be routinely given firearms.

If you need Police officers stationed in schools, something has gone VERY badly wrong.

I've visited quite a few countries where the Police are armed with guns and I think it gives them too much authority. Drawing a gun should be an absolute last resort.

I'm assuming the US isn't like it's portrayed in their movies where the very first thing officers do is draw their weapons. That would just lead to lots of shot civilians, and civilians feeling like they need to be armed to defend themselves against the police. Then other civilians would feel they need to be armed to defend themselves against the other armed civilians. Just imagine the gun death rate you would end up with ultimately!
