National tragedy at CFB Wainwright outside Edmonton.

During a live fire training exercise a munition triggered a grass fire and with 80 km/hr gusting winds the soldiers were surrounded by fire in minutes.

edit: So far 4 dead, 19 in critical condition and 39 total wounded.

This is the worst peace time tragedy on a Canadian Army base.

Being a former base brat this hits close to home.

Hospitals are overwhelmed to the point that some have been flown out to Saskatchewan.

SAR techs from Manitoba have parachuted into Wainright to help overwhelmed first responders.

Sadly it is likely there will be more dead before this is over.
