1. how utterly incompetent the Soviets were earlier in the war by lack of preparedness and Stalin's purges against the officer corps
2. what they were able to do with the massive influx of first British and then U.S. aid
3. how little Stalin cared about casualties to Soviet troops later in the war in their drive to Berlin and to control Eastern Europe.
