Ayatollah set to make a big announcement soon. Apparently Iran is or has ended it's fatwa, edict against nuclear weapons

The US, our leaders, have said time and time again, "the US will never allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon..."

I don't know how nuclear weapons work but apparently there is far more to it than the enriched uranium-235 (or plutonium-239). Iran has enriched U-235 of 60% purity. Weapons-grade levels of enrichment are around 90%. This would be easily attainable since Iran has thousands of advanced centrifuges according to the IAEA.

A nuclear warhead, the delivery system, isn't something you can just develop without testing. You need a device that will undergo a nuclear chain reaction (fission) and this requires numerous tests to ensure functionality. So the idea that many military experts have is if Iran tested a nuclear weapon, we would know and quickly bomb their nuclear sites.

Many experts believe the Iranian Shahab-3 is capable of carrying a nuclear payload of up 1000 kg. The Shahab-3 is based on North Korean Nodong-1/A and Nodong-B missiles. As far as we know, they have never mounted or tested a nuke. Although, Iran could surprise us as Russia did with the Oreshnik missile system.

There are some experts who say Iran doesn't necessarily need to test nuclear weapons. There's a simpler way to detonate U-235, similar to the Little Boy bomb dropped on Hiroshima. This method uses a gun-type design, where two sub-critical masses of fissile material are physically shot together by a conventional explosive in the form of a gun-like mechanism. This forms a supercritical mass, starting a chain reaction that releases a large amount of energy in the form of a nuclear explosion.
