Why does Mario die when he runs out of time? 🤔

how does that even make sense? Like, I know he on shrooms, count for time dilation, and carry the 2 and all, but.. yeah. The time runs out and he just has a heart attack or something there where ever he is in the mushroom kingdom without anything else touching him. WTF?!
