I think XBOX do the right thing if this is true.
Xbox is introducing a Disc-to-Digital feature. Here is how it works:
1⃣ One-Time Registration: Put your physical game disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X once to register it to your account.
2⃣ Play Digital: You get a digital copy tied to your account—no disc needed in the drive anymore!
3⃣ Resellable Discs: The physical disc is still the "master key". If you sell or lend the disc to someone else, the moment they put it into their console, the digital access transfers to them and gets revoked from your account.
4⃣ Periodic Online Checks: To stop people from keeping the digital game offline after selling the disc, Xbox requires your console to check online periodically (roughly every 30 days). If you still own the disc, the system automatically renews your digital access—no need to put the disc back in as the server detect no other account log in with your disc to claim the game ownership it remain your and reset the clock ! or you dont want to go online all the times even once a month is a hussle for some user who have no access to intenet can just inserting the disc back into the console resets the authentication timer once every 30days.
Works on existing Xbox One & Series X discs—no next-gen upgrade required!
In the past:
You had to manually eject and swap physical discs every single time you wanted to switch between different physical games in your library.
The disc drive acted as a constant mechanical check to prove you owned the game right then and there.
With the Disc-to-Digital system:
You insert each supported physical disc just once to register its digital license to your Microsoft account.
After that, you can put all your physical discs back on the shelf/cases permanently.
