I Am a Girl Gamer

I didn't really think about the phrase "Girl Gamer" too much until I started to write this story. And I really don't like it. Yes I'm a girl, and yes I'm a gamer, but that doesn't make me some special different type of gamer just because I'm a girl. Gender should have no bearing on how, why, or whether you play games. I only really keep this group on my profile so I can rant about this stuff.

I had to think twice too about the term girl gamer. But really, it works. I am female and that means I'm a girl. But I'm also a mom and consider myself a women. My kids are all over 18 and it was their input that got me gaming. One handed me a handheld and I had a blast. I would often try a game and then get stuck. I'd have to get one of my kids to play past that spot so I could carry on.

My first mmrpg was Everquest, then dark age of Camelot. I stunk at both. I was offered a beta invite to world of Warcraft. Finally I found my niche. I've been there since. I usually play a hunter or Druid.
But a year ago I began final fantasy XIV. Beautiful game, and they just introduced flying and flying mounts.
All the while I've played Rift on and off. Makes a great second choice. It is free to play if you choose.
I also maintain an account for second life. It is in no way like RPGs. A bit like a real life sims game. I enjoy traveling to other people's creations. Last Christmas it was a blast to see all of the holiday creations. Of course it can be a very social game, depending on your choices.

I am interested in virtual reality. I'm thinking of occulas rift set.
It's running about $600 US dollars. I also wonder how comfortable it would be. That's a chunk of change for something that might be annoying. But we'll see.
