I Am a Girl Gamer

I didn't really think about the phrase "Girl Gamer" too much until I started to write this story. And I really don't like it. Yes I'm a girl, and yes I'm a gamer, but that doesn't make me some special different type of gamer just because I'm a girl. Gender should have no bearing on how, why, or whether you play games. I only really keep this group on my profile so I can rant about this stuff.

@Mahjack, it does depend on where you live, in some places in the world women are far more likely to play games than in other places in the world. But you are right that worldwide there are more men. but not FAR dominant. And that you'd assume I mean damn MARIO when I say video games is freaking insulting and exactly the problem! Not to mention that girls do play the kinds of games you talked about more than you think. there's not tons of girls that play kiddie games and like a tiny amount of girls that play so-called hardcore games, the fact that you'd assume that only hardcore gamers play freaking Call of Duty, the most damn common game in the damn world... That's just insulting to the franchise. When I say girls play games, I don't mean candy crush, I'm talking about the games you listed and more! You don't have to be "hardcore" to like Fallout, you have to be hardcore to still be playing Dungeon Keeper or SW: KotOR, or obscure indie games every day. I remember hearing a group of like 10 girls in my school excitedly talking about GTAV the day it came out. It's depressing how sure you are that many girls like being called girl gamers. The reason you don't seem to realise that so many girls play games is that a damn lot of us really really hate being called girl gamers...

Sorry, rant over. I just got quite angry. Not really your fault. Sorry.
