I Am Addicted to Final Fantasy Xi

So the Japanese society of Oregon is sending exchange students to Oregon to study English and the culture abroad
I’m trying to get my mother to let us host a Japanese kid. Fingers crossed.

Japan has really poor english penetration and English is the lingua franca of the world.

I have English privilege because I speak English and the World’s Economy is hugely dependent on English Speakers.

New York City is the financial center of the world. It used to be London that was but it’s shifted. the Stock market is in New York.

Wall street.

In either event the global economy runs on English and Japan only mandated children learn English in 2011.

The English speaking population in Japan is very tiny.

I used to play Final Fantasy XI and I was up during late hours and I LOVED getting japanese exp parties because Japanese players were better and always did the skillchains and magic burst in perfection compared to American players and EXPed in more places than Americans did.

But the thing is that few of the Japanese players spoke a word of English and we had to rely on autotranslate features to the extreme.

I can’t believe how many people in Japan are not fluent in English.

I’m trying to get Rocket japanese to study Japanese myself because I want to show Japanese people respect by not expecting them to learn English without learning Japanese myself and I’m not sure it’s fair to expect everyone in the world to learn English without at least trying to learn Their Language.

Because really I have English privilege because I speak English and since the Whole global financial system depends on English speakers I can expect the world to Adapt to ME and Speak English as it’s the world’s lingua franca.

and it’s not fair to Expect people to Learn the language without learning there’s or at least trying to

But I really want to Host a Japanese kid. It would be one Person in Japan I knew who could translate between english and japanese. <3

I have had a couple of Japanese exchange students. They were both fairly fluent in English, although you are right about Japan being behind in learning English. In the rural areas, it is tough to find anyone who speaks even basic English. My son took Japanese lessons when he was younger, but he is far more fluent in Mandarin.
@SW-User china is the worlds other global superpower compared to Japan but Japan makes Video games and Anime and I'll always want to learn Japanese just to be able to play the games that were only released in Japan and understand the language being spoken in my Subtitled downloads. Japanese Culture like Anime and Video games are what got me interested in Japanese. Mandarin is the other major language in the world but I want to learn Japanese because So much of the culture I watch and play is Japanese.

@BetweenKittensandRiots Lol. I know. My son took Japanese because he was into manga and anime. We lived in China though, so Mandarin was easier for him to pick up.
