I Like Video Games
Right, just wrapping up on the E3 conferences.
Ubisoft was ok, they didn't really do anything too crazy apart from announce Beyond Good and Evil 2, which is pretty cool that it is a thing again. Maybe this time it will get worked on. Don't care about the Crew 2, the Assassin's Creed bit at their conference was terrible, Far Cry 5 looks cool, still would like to see some actual gameplay instead of their weird, on-rails fake gameplay, but I'm onboard premise at least and setting at least. XCOM: Mario Edition looks...eh? I get where they are coming from, but I don't see it being as engaging as XCOM was, so it'll probably be a pass for me. The Steep DLC was laughable because they talked about it as if the game still has a large player base to which I say: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Overall, not a terrible conference, mainly put up on a pedestal because of Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Sony was weird. They didn't announce anything apart from a few VR games, Monster Hunter 4, and another Shadow of the Colossus remake, which looks gorgeous, but I would have liked to see something more original that would make me feel excited that I might be able to turn on my PS4 again for something cool. Haven't gotten to play Horizon yet, so I can't say whether I'm excited about the DLC or not. Wasn't a fan of the conference, but Spiderman: Arkham City looked cool.
Nintendo was decent. Don't care too much for Nintendo overall because none of their games appeal to me much. Mario Oddyssey looks pretty interesting, Metroid Prime 4 is officially a thing, there's a Pokemon game coming for the Switch, Rocket League is coming to the Switch...and those are the only things largely worth noting. Decent conference overall.
Devolver Digital still wins E3 as far as I'm concerned, but if I had to pick a conference that didn't exist for the sole purpose of making fun of the rest of the conferences and the industry as a whole, I would have to pick Ubisoft. I can't believe I get to say those words unironically, never thought that would happen. I'd put Microsoft second (another thing I thought I would never say), Nintendo third, Bethesda fourth, EA fifth, and Sony last. Sony just dropped the ball this time around, they had nothing to bring to the table this year that wasn't already announced and basically showed us exactly what we already knew about every single game they showed. It was kind of depressing because Sony has been really strong the last couple years. They could have killed The Xbox One X if they took advantage of the conference to drop the price of the PS4 pro to $350 or so, would have been the final nail in the coffin for the X because of it's $500 price tag. Overall though, I had no huge issues with E3 this year. It was just strange to see a focus put back onto the games coming out, but it was a good weird.
