What is your favorite obscure strategy in a video game?

Some cheese or speedrunning mechanics are so impressive and unique. What's your favorite?

In Daggerfall (the Elder Scrolls 2), you could completely set your own skill priorities. I once made a character whose main skills were all languages, just for the novelty of seeing if I could still survive. The way languages worked in that game was, if you encountered a creature with a language, it would make a check, and if you passed, it wouldn't be hostile. If you attacked it, of course, that would change, but it meant that you could explore without risking getting attacked. But since the starting skills were low, and the risks of combat high, it usually wasn't worth it.

And that character died. A LOT. I spent most of my time running away, and desperately fighting when I couldn't (Daggerfall dungeons, while bigger than anything in the series since, mostly consisted of long, narrow passages; you'd often have to be chased a while to find somewhere you could maneuver), but at a certain point, I noticed something unexpected: I started reliably passing the checks. The only creatures that didn't have languages were animals (that stopped spawning as enemies after a certain level) and undead (which were a threat until the end game), and other than that, I was actually able to explore in relative safety. I actually got to poke around the final dungeon quite a bit in that playthrough, because the powerful daedra didn't bother me if I left them alone.

It's not the least bit practical, but it WAS interesting.
