Shmups - Shoot 'em Up(s)
I was born in 1980, I am well aware of, in my younger years had experience with arcade-style shooters (shmups). Ever since getting my emulator in June I have experienced a whole new level, with my emulator an Anbernic CubeXX) I got a 128 Gb SDcard with something on the order of 4,500 games. one main category of game on the card is Shmups, from all over the world
Some, a lot, most even are hard has hell, some sort of aircraft shooting a hoard of on-coming aircraft, vertically like Space Invaders or horizontallly and you die in the first minute, then there are those few gems
one I found early was a vert shooter where the main character walks down main street of a Japanese village and the enemy comes at you like they are in a New Year's parade.
Another one I encountered this morning, the main character is a giant Japanese theater mask head floating through big city high rises, you get to the end of the level and realize The Statue of Liberty is trying to kill you with her torch-turned-flame-thrower.
kinda fitting to start the Monday after Halloween
