I have been freaking out about the fact that Minecraft modders put a fly's consciousness inside of Minecraft.

A bunch of scientists brain scanned a fruit fly and put a map of their neurons up on the Internet. And they used the model to simulate fly behavior in a video game, and the fly behaved like a fly. And now Minecraft modders put the fruit fly in Minecraft... and it's actually playing the game? Am I understanding this right? Have we actually just digitized consciousness?

It's a simplified version of the fly brain, as the hormones and neurotransmitters and stuff aren't being simulated, and the inputs & outputs are not as realistic as they are in real life. More importantly, it can't grow new neurons, so it can't learn things. That's still insane though. Be nice to the fly. <3
