Sins Of A Solar Empire 2 vs 1

My laptop won't support Sins Of A Solar Empire 2, graphics too primitive.

I might upgrade to a ryzen laptop, because I'm tired of the electricity tax intel chips carry, but I'd be pretty much only upgrading for Sins 2, I don't play modern Total War games after they teamed up with Tencent.

Is the AI and gameplay that much better? I'm lretty much bored with what I get from Sins 1 at this point. Not many new RTS games out.
