The PS2 is a complete upgrade in every way. It's also backwards compatible aside from 5 titles. A few sport and racing games and a very fun RPG game called Legend of Dragoon, however that game is playable on a PS3.
PS2 also has fast disc speed & higher resolution option, which allows ps1 games to run & load faster and boost the resolution too.

@Xicsukin I have the legend of dragoon for my ps2 and it works just fine
